The Heartland Honor Flight program was organized by private citizens in cooperation with the Nebraska VFW to transport Nebraska World War II Veterans to Washington D.C., with the mission of thanking them for their patriotic service before the “Greatest Generation” moves into history.

During the one-day trip to D.C., the vets visit the new WW II Memorial, dedicated in 2004.  Other stops include: Korean War Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial Statue, Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery and a brief bus tour of the White House and Capitol Hill area.

The Heartland Honor Flights are provided free of charge.  Veterans who go on this sentimental pilgrimage find great camaraderie and comfort in traveling with comrades that fought to make the U.S.A. the greatest country in the world.

More Heartland Honor Flights will resume in April 2009, however, over $100,000 must be raised to cover the cost for the more than 900 Nebraska Veterans still on the waiting list.  Please help us Git-R-Done!
